Offered is this pair of early 19th century American needlework samplers both worked by the hand of Sarah M Tuttle in the year of 1830 when she was 10 years of age. Born in Wolcott, New Haven, CT. The first sampler has several lines of the alphabet and numbers, below that Sarah stitched a house, flowers, trees and a bird. Along with her name and age, there is a short verse which inspite of there not being any losses I can only make out certain words. The colors are very soft browns, greens and tan. There are no losses, repairs or damage (any light or white spots in the photos are the result of the camera). In frame it measures 18 1/2" by 13" and is in an early gilded wooden frame.
The second and larger sampler is a family register of the Tuttle family. Father Lucius and mother Rebekah married in 1802. It lists the births of 10 of their children. There is a very decorative stitched border. No holes damage or repairs. It looks like someone a little later stitched the letter M next to Rebeckah's name (it may have been her wanting to put her middle initial on the sampler). It also is in a old gilded wooden frame.
Having two samplers done by the same girl are rare, in this condition is a wonderful find.
